Description
Learn about the seismic and geologic history of California and earthquake studies along the San Andreas Fault Zone. Observe the trace of the fault at stops through the Cholame Valley, the town of Parkfield, and along Bitterwater Valley to the Carrizo Plain. Examine evidence for small and large-scale fault movements, including the great Fort Tejon earthquake of 1857. Observe geomorphic features such fault line valleys, uplifted mountain ranges, linear ridges, sag ponds, offset stream drainages, folded rock layers, and fault scarps. Take a walk along the famous Wallace Creek fault offset. Bring a sack lunch and water. This outdoor class is weather permitting. Van transportation included.WEATHER POLICY…If a class is canceled due to safety or weather issues, students will be notified by Cuesta Community Program….the class will be rescheduled or full refunds will be given. If the class or program is on the weekend, the instructor will make the decision and call all registered.
