Develop leaderships skills and learn to play gigs like a professional. Dive into the captivating world of jazz through our unique combination of mentorship, performance training, and collective exploration. This class focuses dually on honing improvisation skills, like bandstand etiquette and how to call a tune and in music teaching techniques. Young musicians don’t have to know how to improvise already, but should be ready to dive in! Upon completing Jazz Lab, students will be invited to (1) mentor beginner and intermediate level students and (2) join Seattle JazzED’s Messengers ensemble, playing public and/or private shows throughout the region. Students will have the option to recieve financial compensation or service hours in exchange for their time. That’s why we offer a variety of tuition levels for our programming. We encourage you to select the option that’s best for your family at this time. If you’re able to choose a level that is above standard tuition, your support will go even farther to ensure: Every student has access to JazzED programs, regardless of their ability to pay. Teaching artists can earn a livable wage while mentoring and inspiring our next generation of musicians. Starting October 1, 2025, a new Washington State law (ESSB 5814) requires us to add sales tax to tuition. Sales tax will apply to all tuition amounts up to our standard tuition level.
