Description
This class is designed for beginning students who have no experience or who have not worked in stained glass in many years. Closed toe shoes must be worn in this class. All tools, equipment and glass will be provided for class use. If students have their own tools, they may bring them as long as they are clearly marked as their own. An additional one-time materials fee of $25 payable to the instructor at the first class, will cover consumable supplies such as copper foil, flux and solder.- The first class will consist of an introduction to the tools and machines that will be used. Glass cutting skills will be taught, first using lightweight practice glass (such as used for picture frames), then with art glass scraps. Students will be introduced to the first of three projects, a small heart shaped suncatcher. This will take students through the entire basic process of stained glass, including cutting, grinding, foiling and soldering. Students can be expected to take approximately two or three weekly sessions to complete this.
- The second project will be a larger suncatcher. Students will be offered a choice of patterns. Depending on how quickly they pick up the skills, the second project will take approximately a month of classes to complete.
- The final project will be a small panel. The instructor will offer a selection of patterns suitable to the skills students have demonstrated in previous projects.
