This program takes place at Mote's Elizabeth Moore International Center for Coral Reef Research & Restoration in Summerland Key, Florida and Southpoint Divers in Key West. Join SCUBAPRO and Mote Marine Laboratory as a citizen scientist and receive hands on opportunities to make a positive difference in the health of our coral reef system. Spend the day on Friday learning about coral reef science, helping fragment coral utilizing Mote’s science-based research to create genetically identical duplicates that grow as much as 50x faster than a natural coral, and tour one of the country's largest land-based coral nurseries. This day will be a land-based only. On Saturday, join us for an afternoon dive/snorkel to take nursery-grown corals and outplant them onto the reef at one of our designated outplanting sites on the Florida Reef Tract, helping to rebuild our coral population. Activities will be dependent on weather. Price includes a coral restoration workshop, training on coral fragmentation, lunch, a 2-tank dive and a citizen science card. Note: Scuba equipment rental is not included but can be arranged through your dealer if joining a group trip or directly with the dive operator if booking independently.
