About this event
This program takes place at Mote's Elizabeth Moore International Center for Coral Reef Research & Restoration (IC2R3) in Summerland Key, Florida and Southpoint Divers in Key West. Join SCUBAPRO and Mote Marine Laboratory as a citizen scientist and receive hands on opportunities to make a positive difference in the health of our coral reef system. Spend a day learning about coral reef science, helping fragment coral utilizing Mote’s science to create genetically identical duplicates that grow as much as 50x faster than a natural coral, maintaining Mote’s expansive in-water nurseries, outplanting on designated reefs, and earn a certification upon program completion. Price includes a coral restoration workshop, training on coral fragmentation, lunch, a 2-tank dive and a citizen science card. Note: Scuba equipment rental is not included but can be arranged through your dealer if joining a group trip or directly with the dive operator if booking independently. Tanks and dive weight will be provided. Please email keysvolunteers@mote.org with questions.
