Overview: This course begins with a review of framing concepts and skills: dimensional lumber, on center spacing, measuring and marking, and cutting with a circular saw. We will quickly dive into the more advanced skills necessary for framing a roof: understanding roof pitch, the difference between a plumb cut and a level cut, and how to layout and cut a rafter. In this class we will cut and install the relatively straightforward rafters for the monoslope roof of the tiny house. To give students practical experience with a more complex roof form, we will also layout, cut, and install rafters for a mock-up of a gable roof. Project description: In our course this year we are building the roof for a Tiny House on wheels. By the end of the week the goal is to have the roof framed and sheathed on the Tiny House. We will also practice more advanced roof framing on a mock up. This class is part of our Tiny House series. Students under 18 may attend with parental permission.
