The class will be repertoire based and will focus on how to play songs from the iconic and influential musical era known as the British Rock Invasion. While emphasis will be on songs by the era’s main musical catalysts (The Beatles and The Rolling Stones), participants will also learn songs from other notable British bands such as The Dave Clark Five, The Yardbirds, The Hollies, The Zombies and others. Participants will learn the chords and suitable strumming patterns for each song on ukulele. There’ll be a mix of simple as well as somewhat challenging songs to learn, but nothing beyond the skill level of an evolving beginner or early intermediate level uke player.Pre-requisite: An introduction to ukulele class such as Yes You Can Play The Ukulele Part 1 or similar beginner level class, is suggested. At the very least, you’ll need to know at least 6 basic chords (major, minor, 7th) and be able to transition among them.
Please bring: Soprano, concert or tenor ukulele (no baritone ukes, please), a pick, and a uke (or guitar) capo to each class meeting. If you have a portable music stand or book holder, bring that, too. Sorry, no loaner instruments available.
