Students learn to research, speak in public, work together as a team, and formulate arguments from multiple perspectives. Success in debate requires dedication outside the classroom, including research, writing, and weekend preparation. It is important to keep this significant time commitment in mind when considering whether to enroll your student in debate. Students who wish to take the debate enrichment class but who are not interested in participating in tournaments are welcome, but should inform the school and coaches so they will not be assigned to a tournament team. Parent Commitment: One parent or guardian per competing debater must attend mandatory training in the fall to qualify as a debate tournament judge and must volunteer to judge at least one tournament during the year.
