Description

This 12-week course covers the fundamentals of creating professional-quality audio for music, video, podcasting, and more. Ideal for musicians, audio engineers, and creators working with high-quality audio. Students learn in a real-world recording environment, recording local musicians, groups, and bands — from solo artists to duos, classical ensembles, and full bands. Topics include microphone techniques, stereo recording setups, analog lines, multi-microphone techniques, mixing, and mastering.


Weekly Outline: Week 1 – Course introduction, critical listening, Pro Tools/Reaper, cable/mic management Week 2 – Mono recording (solo) – direct/indirect soundWeek 3 – Mono recording (solo) – mic types Week 4 – Mono recording (duo) – polar patterns – Guest Artist 1 Week 5 – Stereo recording (duo) – XY, Blumlein, mid/side – Guest Artist 2 Week 6 – Stereo recording (duo) – ORTF, NOS, spaced pair – Guest Artist 3 (Classical) Week 7 – Analog lines, headphone mix, band recording introduction, AES resources Week 8 – Multi-mic live recording (small group/duo/trio) – Guest Artist 4 Week 9 – Multi-mic overdub recording, part 1 (full band) – Guest Artist 5 Week 10 – Multi-mic overdub recording, part 2 (full band) – Guest Artist 5Week 11 – Podcast production, VO recording, DAW editing, AES resourcesWeek 12 – Mixing, mastering, final listening
