Description
Designed for young string players at approximately RCM Levels 2–5, this ensemble provides an enthusiastic and welcoming environment for students eager to develop their technique and listening skills while experiencing the joy of making music together. Students will strengthen their foundation in tone, rhythm, and intonation while learning the essentials of ensemble playing — following a conductor, blending within a section, and working as a team to bring music to life. Weekly rehearsals feature a diverse and engaging selection of repertoire, fostering confidence, creativity, and musical imagination. The orchestra will share its progress in a VCM concert each term and at the Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival, giving students the exciting experience of performing for an audience and celebrating their achievements. Open to violin, viola, cello, and double bass students at RCM Levels 2–5 (or equivalent). Students should be comfortable reading music; some early ensemble experience is helpful but not required. An audition is not required for registration, though students are encouraged to be enrolled in private lessons. Lesson teachers do not need to be affiliated with the VCM.
