Description
Designed for young string players at approximately RCM Level 5 or above, this group offers a fun and supportive environment to grow as a musician while making music with others. Students will strengthen their tone, rhythm, and intonation while learning to follow a conductor, blend with a section, and perform as part of a larger ensemble. Weekly rehearsals explore a variety of exciting repertoire, ranging from classical to pop favourites, to help build confidence, teamwork, and musical expression. The orchestra will also have the opportunity to perform in VCM concerts and the Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival, celebrating their progress and sharing their music with the community.
For violin, viola, cello, or double bass students at RCM Level 5 or higher (or equivalent). Students should be comfortable reading music, and some experience with shifting is recommended. An audition is not required for registration; however, students must be currently enrolled in private lessons. Please note that the teachers do not need to be affiliated with the VCM.
New this year! The orchestra will collaborate with students from the winds, brass, and percussion programs to create a full symphony orchestra for special performances at the end of each term. This gives participants the thrilling opportunity to play larger-scale symphonic works.
The class is limited to a maximum of 20 registrants. Please contact the ensemble director, Maria Wang, if you have any questions at mariawangtw@gmail.com.
