The Victoria Conservatory of Music is thrilled to launch Strings for Beginners, a brand-new group class for beginner string players at our Westhills location. Designed for children ages 6 to 11 who are new to the violin, viola, or cello, this fun and interactive class provides a supportive environment where students build a strong musical foundation and explore the joy of making music!

Through weekly group lessons, students will develop posture, basic technique, rhythm, note-reading, and ensemble playing skills. By the end of the year, they will be able to play some of their favourite tunes—gaining confidence in their musical progress. Led by experienced string educator Maria Wang, the class also fosters musical curiosity and provides performance opportunities, including participation in the Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival and the Year-End Concert.
To ensure steady progress and a rewarding ensemble experience, students are expected to commit to the full year of instruction (31 sessions from October to June). Registration is completed in three terms: October 7–December 16 (10 sessions, except November 11), January 6–March 10 (10 sessions), and March 31–June 9 (11 sessions).
