Description
Big Bold Watercolor Funw/Paulette StaleyA three-session course9/16 - 10/7No class on 9/23Instead of getting caught up in tiny details, we focus on making big, bold strokes with large, juicy brushes. By loading our brushes with a generous amount of water and pigment, we can let the colors mingle and flow across the paper in exciting and unpredictable ways. It’s a messy, joyful experience that helps students overcome the fear of a blank page and discover the unique magic of watercolor as a medium. This approach encourages a playful mindset and results in vibrant, expressive paintings that are full of life and movement.
Watercolor Class Supply List: Wayne Art Center – Big Bold Watercolor Fun Instructor: Paulette StaleyWelcome! I’m excited to have you in class. Below is a list of recommended supplies to bring with you. If you already have some watercolor materials, feel free to bring what you have. Quality makes a difference, but don’t feel you need to purchase the most expensive items—choose what works within your budget.
Paper? Watercolor Cold Press Sheets or Block – 140 lb cold press sheets, 9x12" or larger(Recommended: Arches 140LB Cold Press Sheets)? Optional: A few sheets of 300 lb paper if you want to explore heavier paper
Paints? Artist- or student-grade watercolor tubesRecommended brands: Winsor & Newton, Daniel Smith, Holbein, or Da Vinci Suggested core colors, feel free to choose your own selection (warm & cool versions):? Ultramarine Blue? Cerulean Blue or Phthalo Blue? Alizarin Crimson or Permanent Rose? Cadmium Red Light? Lemon Yellow or Hansa Yellow Light? Burnt Sienna? Viridian Green? Yellow Ochre
Brushes? Watercolor brushes – I prefer Robert Simmons synthetic brushes. I use a variety of sizes and shapes (e.g. wash, flat, filbert, and round). Larger brushes help achieve bold strokes and focus on the big picture rather than getting bogged down with tiny details.
Other Essentials? Palette – with wells for mixing? Water containers – two jars or cups for rinsing brushes? Masking tape or artist's tape? Pencil and eraser – HB or 2B pencil, kneaded or white vinyl eraser? Paper towels or a clean rag? Foam Core Board – if using loose sheets? Spray bottle? Sketchbook? Reference photosDay 1 of class - I will provide a still life setup and do a short demo…You are welcome to paint that or if you prefer to bring your own reference photos.
