Description

Two Discussion on Early Queer History in Delaware and Rockwood - FREE
Join Carolanne Deal (she/they) as they explore Delaware's earliest queer history, from the late 1890s to the 1960s. They will share their research findings, including Edward Bringhurst V's private queer life, as well as gener non-confirming people from the turn of the century, sapphic suffragette activists and more. Carolanne, museum professional and queer historian, was the lead researcher on the LGBTQ+ History of Delaware Research & Digital Engagement Project, as well as the founder of @Delaware Queer History on instagram. Following Carolanne's talk, Rockwood will host a second lecture by Jillian Pini, guest curator for the current exhibition Curated Character: Identity Through the Lenns of Edward Bringhurst V. Pini will explore how Bringhurst "curated character" and expressed his identity through his photography. The talk will briefly overview the contents of the exhibition and connect his photography to broader trends of self-representation and expression in the early 20th century. Pini is an independent curator and graduated from University of Delaware's 4+1 Art History for Museum Professionals master's program in 2024. (30 max)
