Description
The Lifesaving Society's Bronze Cross begins the transition from lifesaving to lifeguarding and prepares candidates for their responsibilities as assistant lifeguards. Candidates strengthen and expand their lifesaving skills and begin to apply the principles and techniques of active surveillance in aquatic facilities. Bronze Cross emphasizes the importance of teamwork and communication in preventing and responding to aquatic emergencies. An endurance swim of 400 meters in 11 minutes is required for successful completion of this level. 100 % attendance and participation are required.
Completion Criteria:
• Attend and participate in 100% of the course.
• Successfully demonstrate competency in required skills, activities, and final evaluation.

• Bronze Medallion (participants must provide a Bronze Medallion card to the instructor on the first day of class)

Next Lifesaving Level:
• 15 years of age: National Lifeguard (NL), Lifesaving Instructor (LSI), Swim for Life Instructor
Bronze Cross awards are mailed to successful candidates by the Lifesaving Society.

Manuals required for the course (available at the pool): • Canadian Lifesaving Manual - approximate cost $ 47.25 • Bronze Cross Workbook- - approximate cost $ 7.35
The following items are required in order to participate in this course: • 1 CPR pocket mask with a 1-way valve• 1 whistle (recommended Fox 40)These items may be purchased at this facility or acquired independently.
