Bronze Medallion teaches lifesaving principles, incorporating the four components of water rescue education: judgment, knowledge, skill, and fitness. Participants learn tows, carries, and release methods in preparation for challenging rescues of increasing risk. They also learn to respond to increasingly complex situations, involving conscious and unconscious people, in contact and non-contact rescues. An endurance swim of 400 meters in 12 minutes is required for successful completion of this level. Successful participants receive the Bronze Medallion award. 100 % attendance and participation are required.
Completion Criteria:
• Attend and participate in 100 % of the course.
• Successfully demonstrate competency in required skills, activities and final evaluation.
Pre-Course Requirements:
• If under 13 years of age: Bronze Star completed by the first day of the course. (Please note that Swimmer 9: Star Patrol is not accepted)
• Age 13 and older: Bronze Star not required, must be 13 years of age by the last date of the course.

• Bronze Cross
Bronze Medallion awards are mailed to successful candidates by the Lifesaving Society
Participants must give prerequisites to the instructor on the first day of class: • Bronze Star or Proof of Age is 13 by the last day of the course
Manuals required for the course (available at the pool): • Canadian Lifesaving Manual - approximate cost $ 47.25 • Bronze Medallion Workbook - approximate cost $7.35
The following items are required in order to participate in this course: • 1 CPR pocket mask with a 1-way valve• 1 whistle (recommended Fox 40)These items may be purchased at this facility or acquired independently.
Pan Am Pool closed for spectating at 5:00PM. Parents/Guardians wishing to stay on site will be limited to the lower lounge area.
