Join vocalist & composer Laura Camara as she shares the stories and personal experiences in her travels through Southeast Asia that lead to the creation of her upcoming concert "Songs of My Father", a multi-media performance highlighting the cultural shift in the United States during the 1960s and the music that changed the world. Laura will share personal inspiration for the show, how she remade some of these iconic songs, and will delve into American History with first-hand accounts and rare video footage. "Songs of My Father" will make its USA premiere at the McConnell Arts Center on Saturday, September 27th. Tickets now on sale. Laura Camara is an award winning jazz vocalist and composer from Columbus, Ohio. She has performed at top jazz venues and festivals around the world such as The Montreux Jazz Festival, The Boston Pops Jazz Festival, and the Betty Carter Jazz Ahead Program at the John F. Kennedy National Center for the Performing Arts. Laura has also headlined international events such as The Ubud Village Jazz Festival in Bali, Indonesia and the Jazz For The King Concert for the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand, and has been a featured artist profiled on WGBH Boston’s National Public Radio and New York City Web Series Capsulocity. In addition to performing, Laura Camara is also a dedicated educator. She has served as head voice faculty at the New York Conservatory of Music as well as an Associate professor in the Musical Theatre Department at Mahidol University College of Music and Senior Jazz Voice Faculty at Silpakron University in Thailand. She has also performed voice and improvisation masterclasses around the world including an original masterclass series based on Jazz History and American Studies called “Jazz from the Seed”. Laura Camara’s debut album with The Jake Reed Trio, “Shades of Ellington”, is available on all platforms and currently in rotation at NPR stations around the United States.
